What Makes Mohair Special

Mohair fibre has a smooth, cylindrical structure that reflects light uniformly — producing a lustre and sheen that wool, cotton, and synthetic fibres cannot replicate. This quality is most visible in mohair velvet, where the pile directionality creates a characteristic shimmer that shifts from light to dark as the viewing angle changes. Unlike synthetic velvets that achieve a similar optical effect through polyester pile, mohair velvet develops character and patina with use — the pile subtly crushes and recovers, recording the history of the piece in a way that adds rather than detracts from its beauty.
