Indoor/outdoor fabric is the most versatile and practically capable category in performance textiles — fabrics engineered to perform across both interior and exterior environments, offering the durability, UV resistance, moisture resistance, and cleanability of outdoor-rated fabric alongside the visual quality and design sophistication of residential upholstery textile. What Indoor/Outdoor Fabric Achieves

True indoor/outdoor fabric is rated for genuine exterior exposure — direct sunlight, rain, humidity, and the physical demands of outdoor furniture use — while looking and feeling sophisticated enough for interior applications. The primary technology is solution-dyeing (most prominently Sunbrella): introducing colour at the fibre level during extrusion so that the colour is inherent to the material rather than applied as a surface dye. Solution-dyed acrylic outdoor fabric can be cleaned with diluted bleach, resists UV fading under direct sunlight, and repels moisture without the mildew and rot associated with natural fibre upholstery in outdoor conditions.

Indoor/Outdoor for Interior Use

Many designers now specify indoor/outdoor fabric for high-traffic interior applications — family rooms, children's rooms, mudrooms, kitchens, and any space where the practical benefits of outdoor-grade construction (bleach cleanability, stain resistance, durability) are more important than the tactile luxury of natural fibre upholstery. Performance construction now achieves visual quality that indoor/outdoor fabrics from a decade ago could not — stripes, prints, solids, and even textured constructions that look and behave like luxury upholstery while performing at outdoor standards.
