How Wallpaper Borders Are Used

Ceiling-line borders create a cornice-like framing effect at the top of a wall — the border acting as a decorative substitute for architectural moulding in rooms without actual crown detail. Dado borders applied at chair-rail height create the visual effect of a divided wall treatment — a coloured or papered lower section below the border and a different treatment above it. Borders can also be applied at door and window surrounds as architectural framing elements.
