Taffeta, Moiré & Satin Fabric by the Yard

Taffeta, moiré, and satin are the most formally elegant fabric constructions in residential textiles — smooth, highly lustrous, light-reflecting surfaces associated with the grandest traditions of European interior design and the most formally appointed residential spaces. At The WorkRoom, our collection spans silk and silk-look taffeta, moiré, and satin constructions from leading luxury brands for the most special-occasion upholstery and drapery applications.

The Three Constructions

Taffeta is a plain-woven, crisp fabric with a characteristic rustle and smooth, medium-lustre surface — most associated with formal drapery panels, cushions, and bedding where its drape and light-catching quality are most visible. Moiré takes taffeta and adds the distinctive watermarked surface pattern created by passing the fabric through engraved rollers — the resulting wood-grain-like optical effect creates one of the most elegant and distinctive surfaces in all of residential textiles. Satin uses a weave structure that maximises warp-yarn exposure on the face side, creating the smoothest and most reflective of all woven surfaces — the fabric equivalent of polished lacquer.

Also Explore

Silk fabric covers the natural fibre equivalent of these formal constructions. Velvet fabric is the other principal luxury upholstery tradition at this formal positioning level. Drapery fabric covers the broader window treatment category where taffeta and satin are most commonly used.
