Caroline Cecil Textiles Fabric by the Yard

Caroline Cecil Textiles is one of the most compelling boutique fabric stories in the American design industry — a brand founded by an artist-designer whose collections begin not on a computer screen but as original India Ink paintings, translated through hand screen-printing onto the finest certified Belgian and heritage Irish linen grounds. Founded in 2014 in California and now part of the Kravet family of brands, Caroline Cecil Textiles brings a coastal, minimalist sensibility to residential fabric — small-scale geometric prints that appear simple from a distance but reveal genuine complexity and artisanal character up close. At The WorkRoom, we carry the complete Caroline Cecil Textiles fabric collection as an authorised Kravet dealer — multipurpose printed linens available by the yard with samples available before committing to a full order.

About Caroline Cecil

Caroline Cecil grew up in a creative community in coastal Maine, learning to paint from her grandmother. She went on to study graphic design and business at Parsons The New School for Design before completing a BFA in Textile Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art — one of the most rigorous textile design programmes in the United States. Her early career spanned couture textile design for fashion runway collections and mass-market design for brands including Levi's and Target before she launched Caroline Cecil Textiles in 2014. The brand's first collections were created directly from her India Ink paintings, working with her grandmother's brushes — a deeply personal origin story that defines the brand's character. In 2024 Kravet acquired the brand, placing Caroline Cecil Textiles alongside a curated group of boutique international design houses as part of Kravet's portfolio of distinctive, artisanally-led lines.

The Collections — Origins and Beyond

The Caroline Cecil Textiles fabric collection is built around the brand's signature aesthetic: clean coastal inspiration, small-scale geometric and nature-derived prints, printed by hand on linen for a surface that rewards close inspection. The Origins collection is the foundational range — 54"-wide multipurpose printed linens that translate the brand's core motifs into the most versatile fabric format. Bridge is one of the collection's defining patterns — a bold, linear geometric structure in a workable palette that makes a statement without overwhelming. Its architectural linearity is perfectly balanced, and its neutral-leaning colourways in white/natural and other tones make it one of the most layerable prints in the collection. Beck in black/oyster brings high-contrast graphic energy to the same linen ground. Other designs in the collection include Hannu — a hand-painted motif inspired by an ancient quartzite bust, printed on linen in earth tones — and batik-influenced geometric designs that reference traditional Polynesian craft.

The Linen Difference

All Caroline Cecil Textiles fabrics are hand screen-printed onto certified Belgian or heritage Irish linen grounds — a material choice that is central to the brand's identity and quality proposition. Belgian and Irish linen are the finest linen substrates available for fabric production — their long-fibre construction creates a surface with exceptional hand, natural lustre, and the distinctive texture that makes linen fabric so beloved in residential interiors. Hand screen-printing preserves the slight imperfections and variation that define the artisanal character of the collection — two yards of the same pattern will never be absolutely identical, and it is precisely this quality that designers who specify Caroline Cecil describe as its most compelling attribute. As the fabric is used and laundered over time, the linen develops a natural patina and a softness that enhances rather than diminishes its character.

How Caroline Cecil Textiles Layers in an Interior

The collection is specifically designed to layer — the brand's coastal, minimalist aesthetic encourages mixing prints at different scales and tones rather than coordinating within a single pattern. A Caroline Cecil geometric print on a accent chair or cushion pairs beautifully with neutral linen upholstery fabric on a sofa — both sharing the organic, natural-material character of linen. Velvet fabric in a deep complementary tone creates a tactile contrast that makes the hand-printed linen surface feel even more distinctive. Botanical and floral fabric in a complementary earthy palette complements the nature-inspired geometric vocabulary of Caroline Cecil prints. The collection's small-scale, graphic quality means it layers naturally with both pattern and solid companions without competing.
