Traditional & Decorative Fabric by the Yard

Traditional and decorative fabric covers the broad category of residential textiles rooted in the classical European and American pattern traditions — damasks, brocades, tapestry weaves, jacquards, historic prints, chinoiserie, and the full vocabulary of ornamental textile design that has defined formal and informal residential decoration for centuries. At The WorkRoom, our traditional and decorative fabric collection spans thousands of designs from leading brands including Schumacher, Kravet, Lee Jofa, Brunschwig & Fils, and more.

What Traditional & Decorative Fabric Encompasses

Damasks weave tone-on-tone pattern — the woven interlacing of two different weave structures in the same colour creates patterns visible through sheen contrast rather than colour contrast. Brocades add a supplementary weft thread to create raised, embossed-looking pattern on the fabric surface. Tapestry weaves reproduce pictorial or ornamental imagery in a heavy, woven medium with the visual richness of historic tapestry. Jacquards use programmatic weaving to create complex pattern structures from multiple yarns. Historic prints reproduce archival patterns from the greatest periods of European textile design. All of these constructions share a commitment to pattern richness, material quality, and the decorative tradition that places them firmly in the traditional and decorative category.
