Wool Fabric by the Yard

Wool fabric covers one of the most naturally versatile and enduring textile fibres available for residential upholstery and drapery — a natural protein fibre with inherent flame resistance, natural elasticity and recovery, excellent colour retention, and a warmth and texture that synthetic alternatives cannot replicate. At The WorkRoom, our wool fabric collection spans woven, felted, and specialty wool constructions from leading luxury brands including Schumacher, Kravet, and more.

Why Wool for Residential Upholstery

Wool's natural properties make it exceptionally well-suited to residential upholstery. Its inherent flame resistance meets fire safety standards without chemical treatment. Its natural crimp and elasticity allow wool fabric to recover from compression — preventing the permanent indentations that plagued cotton and synthetic upholstery. Wool's moisture-wicking properties regulate temperature naturally, making wool-upholstered pieces comfortable in both warm and cool conditions. Wool also naturally repels soil at the surface level (hydrophobic exterior fibre) before allowing moisture absorption, giving it practical soil-resistance properties without the need for chemical stain treatment.

Types of Wool Fabric

Woven wool covers the broadest category: tweeds, herringbones, plaids, and textured wovens that bring the warmth and texture of traditional wool into residential upholstery and drapery. Wool bouclé and loop pile is the most tactile wool construction — the irregular, textured loops of bouclé yarn creating a surface of organic warmth and dimensional visual interest. Wool felt creates a smooth, flat, non-woven surface with the warmth of wool without the pattern of weave.
