Jim Thompson

Jim Thompson is a brand of exquisite and luxurious fabrics and wallpapers inspired by the legacy of James H. W. Thompson, an American architect and art collection born in 1906. Jim loved hand-woven Thai silk and dedicated his life to organizing a network of artisans who could produce silk products following their ancestral methods with the aid of new techniques. In 1950 he established The Thai Silk Company, that started exporting their products to Europe and America, creating a luxury craft industry that benefited thousands of families. At The WorkRoom, we carry the complete collection of Jim Thompson fabric, wallpaper and furniture. Please contact us for pricing or product information. Request a quote.

Nowadays, the brand Jim Thompson employs more than 3,000 people and oversees all aspects of the silk-making process, from working with local farmers and weavers to creating contemporary Thai silks collections. The original project from 1950 was aimed at revitalizing the art of silk weaving while supporting local economies in Thailand, and it is still alive today as a reference brand in the production of premium textiles for interior decoration, and as the world’s largest producer of hand-woven fabrics. Today Jim Thompson owns more than 50 workshops located on 37 hectares of lush vegetation where silkworms are produced as raw material for the most exquisite silk fabrics.
Jim Thompson is a vertically integrated company, incorporating quality-controlled processes on all aspects of the fabric production process. The processes range from silkworm cultivation and yarn manufacturing to designing, weaving, printing, and treating. The company has its treatment lab where fabrics can be treated for fire retardancy and Teflon coating, as well as adding water and stain repel options. The brand's customers include some of the world's foremost architects and interior designers whose projects adorn the most opulent residential interiors, hotels, airplanes, and yachts.
